History

Zhidan was formerly known as county. The site derives its historical significance from having temporarily served as the capital of communist China in the midst of China's transition-upheaval period during which communist forces battled the Chinese nationalist GMD government. From early July 1936 to January 1937 Bao'an was the site of the Communist Party of China's Central Committee headquarters, as well as that of the Communist military forces. It was replaced by Yan'an . Zhidan County takes its name from Liu Zhidan, military strategist and high-ranking leader of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army who died fighting for the communist side in 1935.

History

Yangling received its name as the family burial site of founding emperor of the Sui Dynasty.

Starting in 1979, Yangling went through several administrative region changes until it became a district to the City of Xianyang in 1983. In 1997 the Yangling High Tech Agriculture Sector Demonstration District was estalished in Yangling District as a testing ground for new agriculture technology and techniques.

Education

Yangling is home to the main campus of Northwest A&F University , established in 1934 by Yang Hucheng who was the general of the Northwest Army under Kuomintang.

Economy

Wubu is an impoverished county. A large-scale high-quality coal mine was discovered in 2005, and remains to be exploited. Other natural resources include coal-derived gas, fluorite, phosphorus and etc. Route 307 national highway and Tai-Zhong railway under construction pass through the territory. Special local products are red date and silkworm.

History

The area was used by Helian Bobo to detain the captives of Liu Yu of Song Dynasty of Southern Dynasty. So its former name was Wu'erbu
In Northern Han Dynasty, a stone city was built in Wubu. At present, some buildings from and Dynasties are still preserved. Due to the difficulty of water intake on the hill, most residents have moved to the new town at hill foot.
Wubu was a part of Shaan-Gan-Ning Border Area during Sino-Japanese War and Chinese Civil War

Tongguan County

Tongguan County is a in Weinan, Shaanxi, China. It is located in the east of the Central Plain, north of the Qinling Mountains, south of and Luo River, east of the Mount Hua and in between the three provinces of Shanxi, Shaanxi and Henan. Throughout Chinese history, Tongguan remains to be a strategic point due to its geographical significance.

History

Located between the Qinling Mountains and the Yellow River, the path to Tongguan is very narrow and its terrain was difficult to pass. After the Eastern Han Dynasty, Tongguan gradually replaced Hangu Pass in significance, and became the eastern portal of Guanzhong. Beginning from the Battle of Tongguan until the and Tang Dynasty, Tongguan was always an important strategic base. It was especially apparent during the Tang Dynasty, as the safety of the national capital Chang'an was directly connected with the defense of Tongguan. The loss of Tongguan usually leads directly to the fall of Chang'an as it happened during the An Shi Rebellion.
